A woman is often measured by the things she cannot control. She is measured by the way her body curves or doesn't curve, by where she is flat or straight or round. She is measured by 36-24-36 and inches and ages and numbers, by all the outside things that don't ever add up to who she is on the inside. And so if a woman is to be measured, let her be measured by the things she can control,by who she is and who she is trying to become. Because as every woman knows, measurements are onlystatistics. And STATISTICS LIE." Found in September of 1990 The famous Venus De Milo statue would be considered fat by todays' standards because her measurements are 43-31-40, larger than models. She was the statue Aphrodite, goddess of love and beauty.
For a while, clothes were made to fit the person and in 1863, a dressmaker named Ellen Butterwick invented standard sizes which would change fashion forever. When magazines came in, advertising came in. In the 1920's the flapper was born. A flapper was a woman who had short hair and had to be thin. Now beauty became about money. In1928, an ad for Lucky Cigarettes was "to keep a slender figure, reach for a lucky instead of a sweet." This was the beginning of women dying to be thin. Today we know smoking is bad, yet women still use them to lose weight as an appetite suppressant. In 1948 there was an ad for Ry-Krips saying "nobody loves a fat girl!" The brainwashing of women hating their bodies had begun. In 1967 "Twiggy" came from England to New York. Her measurements were 31-22-32, she was 5' and 7" and weighed 91 pounds. Now everyone wanted to look like Twiggy, so diet shakes and diet products and weight loss clinics were springing up.
Now women were using liposuction and stomach stapling and jaw wiring. Again, women dying to be thin. In 1996, Canada spent three billion and the U.S.A. spent 40 billion on general weight loss. I know you all you might not understand this, but having a scale in the home can make girls overly concerned about their weight. Eating disorders are one hundred and fifty times more prevalent than Aids. Cruelty to large people is a hate crime. Did you know that "No Fat Chicks" is a bumper sticker? Words do hurt. In the U.S.A. there is a billboard for a gym that says "When they come, they'll eat the fat ones first." If you check between the older and new movies, you will see the Columbian woman , the logo, has actually decreased in weight. They thought she was overweight. The all beautiful Marilyn Monroe would be considered overweight and therefore out of work. Even the skinny models you see in ads, weight has been shaved off.
Through evolution, people have gotten bigger. Ninty-eight percent of the women who diet , gain the weight back, because it is not their true weight. On one account, when a large woman went to her doctor to get birth control, where upon the doctor said, "who would want to have sex with you?" Hate is taught. Chubby children are seen by others as lazy, less intelligent, dishonest and sloppy. All personality traits that have nothing to do with weight. Chink, Jew, Kraut, Spic. These terms are unacceptable and hurtful. We all know that. Calling someone "fat" is no different and is still bigotry. Stop the hate.
